I inadvertently went off the blog/email radar this week. Last minute I found myself traveling to spend the week in Virginia, staying at my company's condo while I get some training for my new job I started a few weeks ago.
So, I will finish my trip next week with more pictures but because I only had 5 minutes to sit down and say, Hi! and I wanted to show you what I started this week.
This is the smoke ring pattern by Susan (she's having a half-price sale on her patterns this week, BTW), distributed as a kit with hand-dyed zephyr from Willy Wonka Fibers. I like the way it's knitting up but I foolishly thought I could start and finish it one week, I only have one word to say to that, NUPPAGE! This is my first time doing nupps, and the knit 5 TBL is killing me! Finally after about 50 of the darn things I've managed to create a system that works for me but it's still a slow process, I'm only 1/3 of the way done but I hope to power through and finish quickly. (Famous last words right? That's what I kept saying about rona!) =) And I guess I should answer the question that quickly springs to mind - well what needles are you using for these nupps? I ordered a set of the new range of knitpicks needles in the smaller sizes, it's a US5 - 16" needle and the tips are quite pointy, not as pointy as addi lace, but pointy. How about you, do you have any tips for nupps??
Have a great weekend!

Well, it looks beautiful. The nupps are soooo worth the effort.
You can slip the 5 sts, one at a time, to the RH needle; through the yarn over the RH needle as if to knit; then pass the 5 sts, one-by-one, over and off the RH needle.

I use a straight pin to lift the stitches from the left side in a group to create the space to insert the right needle for P5tog in the Swallowtail shawl. It's trickier with knit stitches. Then I make sure the yarn has been pulled through all the stitches before I move the new stitch and the right needle off the left needle.

I've heard of lots of people using a crochet hook for nupps.
I've cast on for that project, but haven't reached the nuppage stage yet. Work that out for me, won't you?

Someone made the shawl from the book and left a tip on how to make them easier. Hope it helps you.

That looks like fun, though I'm still confused about what nuppage is! I'll go look again. I bought her scarf pattern-so glad to find something for that single skein of kid seta I have.

I think I'd make one if I didn't live somewhere SO HOT.
I bought a pattern.

That's so pretty, Keri! And I didn't even want to fall asleep reading the first part of your trip. It sounds like it was a great adventure! Although I wouldn't be so cheery about that first night in the car. I would still be recovering from that.

Ooh, that looks like pretty lace! I hope you will model it for us when it's done. Nupps? No clue.

Mmm, love that smoke ring. Had to get the pattern myself. Though I haven't even looked at the pattern yet. Didn't know it had nupps... Thought about using a small crochet hook to pull the stitch through?

Advise for nupps - to begin with, use thinner needles than the pattern calls for and knit loosely. One compensates for the other, and it leaves you with the space needed to do it. Works great for me.
